Last week, the atmosphere at Asia-Pacific International University (AIU) buzzed with an electric mix of inspiration and reflection as the “Festival of Faith: Loving Beyond Borders” unfolded. This week-long event, organized by the AIU Chaplaincy Department, transcended the boundaries of traditional faith gatherings, offering a powerful message of unity and love in the face of difference.
Instead of inviting outside speakers, this semester’s FOF took a unique approach, featuring faculty members who serve as missionaries at Asia-Pacific International University, Thailand. Sharing their experiences and expertise in cross-cultural environments, these educators offered compelling and relatable insights into the theme of “Loving Beyond Borders.”
Each day, morning and evening sessions presented thought-provoking messages. Dr. Mark Vodell explored the concept of finding your mission, while Dr. Elvin Walemba challenged the audience to recognize our shared humanity through his powerful “We all bleed red” message. Mr. Dan Storie brought the Holy Spirit’s role in overcoming life challenges, and Dr. Ritha Maidom’s story of “A Small Woman with a Great God” resonated deeply with many.
But the impact extended beyond the spoken word. The theme “Loving Beyond Borders” manifested in the very fabric of the event. The multicultural AIU community, with its diverse backgrounds and beliefs, became a living testament to the message of unity. Participants could see and celebrate the rich tapestry of humanity, dismantling the invisible walls of discrimination and racism.
This wasn’t just a week of talks but a call to action. The Festival of Faith aimed to leave a lasting impression, encouraging the AIU community to embrace God’s love in all its diverse expressions. By dismantling the “borders” that separate us, participants were empowered to build bridges of understanding and compassion, creating a more inclusive and loving world.
While the Festival of Faith may have concluded, its message continues to resonate. Perhaps you couldn’t attend, but the stories, the lessons, and the spirit of unity are still alive. Consider this your invitation to reflect on “Loving Beyond Borders” in your life. How can you break down personal barriers and extend love and acceptance to those around you? Remember, we are all part of the same human family, united under the one God who loves us all equally.
