AIU Family Emphasis Week
The Family Emphasis Week is an initiative by AIU Church to help family members deal with difficult situations in their family lives and to help them grow closer to each other and God.
This year’s program, held on Sunday, September 4, Tuesday, September 6, and Thursday, September 8, 2022, focused on “Emotional Health in the Family.” The program aimed to address emotional maturity and stability within families.
Sunday’s program dealt with identifying underdeveloped emotional health in individuals. “Emotionally Healthy Spiritually” by Peter Scazerro was the material used by the presenter. Attendees were reminded that the term “emotionally mature” may not necessarily mean that a person is mature in every aspect of life. Participants were reminded that they will see “new sides” of their spouses, but that should not deter them from seeking to understand each other.
Tuesday’s and Thursday’s sessions tackled issues that lead to divorce and ruin relationships. The participants were reminded of the importance of unveiling and dealing with past toxic behaviors and events that may be detrimental to current relationships. Participants managed to recognize patterns and behaviors in their partners and themselves and understand where the behaviors started. They learned to be more patient with others, knowing that the past plays a vital role in the present.
The week-long program ended during Divine Service on Sabbath. Pr. Bayu Kaumpungan addressed the reality of family relationships and marriages in this sinful world. He reminded the congregation that even though relationships are shaky and hard, Jesus has given the perfect example of true love. If people follow His example instead of idolizing earthly relationships, they will grow closer to each other and God.
