Welcome

College is a wonderful place full of possibilities, new beginnings and change, but it can also create unpleasant experiences, pressures and problems. When this happens, we at the Student Development and Counseling Center are here to help our AIU students develop effective coping skills in order to address emotional, interpersonal and academic concerns. Our Counseling Center mainly offers orientation, career guidance and short-term counseling to respective individuals, couples, and group counseling. We also provide referrals to other institutions, where students could benefit from longer term services.

Furthermore, our Counseling Center also provides psychological testing and evaluation in order to assess students’ psychological, emotional and behavioral well-being. These assessments will help students to set goals and develop an appropriate plan for positive change. It is the Counseling Center’s desire to help AIU students to be successful, happy, healthy, and balanced in all areas of their lives.

Information discussed with the Counselor is treated with utmost privacy and confidentiality, unless the student gives permission to share information with others, or in cases of immediate danger of serious harm to the student or someone else. Students under 18 have different confidentiality restrictions.

Visit Us

Students are encouraged to seek help and meet the Counselor right away to gain understanding of a situation that bothers them before it reaches a crisis stage.

Don’t wait until your problems become too great to overcome. If you are not doing well in the class because:

  • Of factors outside the classroom which interferes your studies
  • When you find yourself sad for no reason
  • When you are thinking of ending your life
  • When you feel anxious and confused
  • When you are stressed out

Come and visit the Counselor!  The Counseling Center office is on the 3rd floor of the Student Center building.

Schedules for Counseling

Please note that the Counselor teaches classes and facilitate workshops, so there are times she is not in her office. Do contact the Student Development and Counseling Center office ahead of time at ext. 1409 to set up a counseling appointment.
