Our students are actively involved in multiple community outreach projects throughout the year. In the 2020-2021 school year, the Thai AY program members coordinated programs for student groups on campus and in the communities around.
TPI Community Project
TPI Polene Public Company Limited is Thailand’s second-largest cement manufacturer. One of TPI many factories is situated not far from the AIU campus. A visit to the community village of TPI workers and their families revealed an opportunity for aid; basic education and daily necessities were not accessible to many community members. With the help of their group leaders, the students of the Thai AY program donated items such as canned foods, rice, toothpaste and toothbrushes, and Kayari (mosquito repellant). During multiples visits to the village, the Thai AY group shared topics covering NEWSTART and the health message. And while the adults learned about various healthy habits, the children were taught to stay clean and healthy through simple English songs.
Bong Ti Community Church Project
Bong Ti is a Thai village located in Kanchanaburi at the border of Thailand and Myanmar. The Bong Ti Church pastor communicated with AIU Church leaders about his village members’ hardships. Recent floods made it difficult for families in the remote village to access basic necessities. Moreover, travel restrictions due to COVID-19 also prevented able family members from working. The AIU Church leaders quickly responded to the pastor’s request and sent supply packages to Bong Ti village.
While at Bong Ti, AIU students did their best to provide for the villagers as much as possible. They distributed food and supplies and helped at the nearby Bamboo School/Orphanage. Furthermore, some financial donation was left with the Bong Ti church pastor to be given to the Karen community living on the border of Myanmar as soon as possible. Campus AY Ministry
When reaching out to people in the community, we also remember to minister to our university students. Events and activities such as AY concerts, movie nights, and outdoor sundown worships make fellowship memorable and learning more about God enjoyable. The AY leaders are motivated to help students find their way to God.
